The American University of Myanmar was pleased to host a delegation of business students, an alumnus, a faculty member and an administrator from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (“CUHK”) including a few students from the University of South Carolina studying at CUHK on October 2nd and 3rd, 2017. They visited Yangon to learn about the state of the economy and ease of doing business here. Chris O’Connor, AUM Lecturer of Finance, conducted a seminar for the delegation in which he explained the challenges of bringing Myanmar businesses up to international accounting standards and the progress that is being made. Rajesh Ahuja, CEO of ANZ Myanmar, conducted a seminar for the delegation on the Myanmar banking sector and opportunities for investing in Myanmar. AUM’s Rector, Professor Craig Klafter, remarked, “By introducing foreign business students from one of the world’s top business schools to the opportunities of doing business in Myanmar, AUM is planting seeds that will hopefully lead to greater foreign direct investment in Myanmar. Foreign direct investment is the most effective means of advancing the economy, increasing government revenues and improving the lives of the people of Myanmar.”
